‘WHEN A MAN DIES, GOD GRANTS HIM A LITTLE PIECE OF BLUE SKY’
Babi BadalovThis is a real location, a field in the village of Lerik in Azerbaijan. The artist is a small boy, playing in the summer heat in a basin of water. He often dreamt of certain games and was finally able to construct his own dreams in the form of toys. Toys for adults are often contradictory, often evoke associations of violence, of absurdity. But his own toys are formalized, tangible sensations, the transmutation of the impossible. Babi is generous with these toys. He knows that the doll’s house is not exactly a house, and the earth is not exactly a native land.
